Eva Horvath - Urban

About
ARTIST STATEMENT:

As an artist, my immediate environment has always been a great source of inspiration.

My most preferred medium is oil paint combined with pastels and pencils, applied to a stretched linen base.

Large format paintings enable me to combine broad ‘arm action’ mode of painting using large brushes, with more delicate, detailed mark-making applied with a finer touch.

The fascination I feel for the city I live in has been a driving force for a series of urban landscapes.

The juxtaposition of man-made structures and organic forms found in nature is an aesthetic that I have been particularly keen to explore through drawing and painting.

'Melbourne Through the Mist’ is a triptych that exemplifies my passion for this subject.

The inspiration for the artwork came during a late afternoon visit to Eureka Tower as mist and storm clouds rolled in and rapidly engulfed much of the city below.

The expansive birds-eye views from the Sky Deck, and the drama that unfolded below had compelled me to portray in paint the visual spectacle that was on display that day.

The artwork consists of three self-contained panels that are designed to hang together as one continuous panorama measuring 270cm (W) x 150cm (H.
The paintings may also be displayed separately as three individual images each measuring 90cm (W) x 150cm (H).
